What is Geocaching?

What is geocaching?

GEOCACHING is treasure-hunting using a  GPS unit!!!

It is an outdoor activity in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to locate hide and seek containers (called “geocaches” or “caches”) which could be anywhere in the world.

A typical cache is a small waterproof container (usually a tupperware or ammo box) containing a logbook. Larger containers can also contain items for trading, usually toys or trinkets of little value. Geocaching is most often described as a “game of high-tech hide and seek”, sharing many aspects with orienteering, treasure-hunting, and waymarking.

Geocaches are currently placed in over 100 countries around the world and on all seven continents, including Antarctica. As of October 12 2009, there are over 919,800 active geocaches over the world.

What we do...

We map out Geocaching routes and prepare you for your Geocaching activity. We’ll show you how to read maps and use the GPS receivers in order to navigate to the geocaches. We’ll make sure that everyone is safe and well-prepared.

We’ll even organise lunch!

What you do...

You learn how to read maps and use the GPS equipment, and then make your way into the countryside to seek out your geocaches.

It’s great fun putting theory into practice...and competing to see who will be the quickest to find their containers!!!
